After making art and tattooing in New York City for 15+ years, Wendi and Carlos decided to start a family. Moving back to Kent, Ohio seemed the natural choice to be closer to family.
They both come from a strong tradition of creativity, quality, and the highest standards of cleanliness at a fair price. They opened up South Water Studios to offer Kent and the surrounding NE Ohio area the same degree of quality tattooing their clients had come to expect in NYC.
Wendi holds a BFA in Graphic Design from Kent State University and an MFA in Illustration from School of Visual Arts in NYC. In addition to tattooing she has worked for American Greetings as a designer and planner. She continues to work as a freelance illustrator. Her clients have included Kid Robot, Playboy magazine, NYTimes, Abrams Image Publishing, Running Press, Harper Collins, New York Press, YM Magazine, Bust Magazine, Kansas City Pitch, Pittsburgh City Paper, Girls Life Magazine, Delaware Today, Rhode Island Monthly, Sketchel, Gotham Girls Roller Derby, and the Philly Roller Girls.
Carlos studied painting at the Universidad de Artes Plasticas de Puerto Rico and has worked for The Museum of Contemporary Art Puerto Rico. In 2001 he moved from San Juan to NYC where he began working at the famous Jonathan Shaw's Fun City Tattoo. In addition to tattooing he's contributed to the Rabid Rabbit comic anthology and produced numerous designs for t-shirts. When he's not tattooing or drawing he's probably playing chess.
